Electrical
(E-TEC®)

The E-TEC® range has been specially crafted to provide compounds for applications where varying degrees of permanent electrical conductivity are required.

Colloids has years of experience in producing E-TEC® polymers to a range of surface resistivity. We serve as a solutions provider to key market sectors for electrical and electronics, automotive, consumer and industrial products and packaging, storage and distribution applications. Our E-TEC® grades offer customers enhanced electrical performance for film, sheet and profile extrusion, injection moulding, vacuum forming and closed cell foams. These have been formulated to offer superior mechanical properties, enhanced process capability and excellent weldability, all with a sleek styling.

Standard thermoplastics are effective insulators, and also readily generate static charges which can damage electronic components or ignite sensitive materials. Our bespoke E-TEC® formulation uses carbon black to form a conductive network, unaffected by humidity and guaranteed as a conductor for the life of the product, all without static accumulation.

Our technical experts have experience in selecting the correct carbon black for your needs based on the particle size, along with the correct functionality on the surface of the particles. The formulation of the compound is key with the ideal loading of the carbon black governed by the “percolation curve”. Colloids’ strict production quality control ensures that excellent dispersion is achieved without impacting the carbon black’s conductive properties, creating a perfect conductive compound ready for further processing.

The major current grades are:

  • E-TEC® PP50/Con/2 – a rigid PP-based grade for injection moulding. Excellent for small tote boxes and other containers.

  • E-TEC® PP50/Con/3 – a more-flexible and tougher version of PP50/Con/2.

  • E-TEC® PA 4332 – a polyamide-based compound offering higher service temperature capability.

  • E-TEC® PS 13680 – an impact-modified PS compound giving mouldings with good definition and appearance.

Based on dispersions of conductive carbon black, the E-TEC® range is available as standard in the following polymers, ideal for any work where an accumulation of static electrical charges may cause a problem:

  • Polystyrene – offers good definition and lower shrinkage

  • Polycarbonate/ABS – for applications requiring high strength

  • Polypropylene – good balance between rigidity and toughness

  • Polyamide – ideal for higher operating temperatures

  • Polyethylene – suggested for film extrusion down to 75 micron
