Electrically conductive compounds (E-TEC®)

The E-TEC® range has been specially crafted to provide compounds for applications where varying degrees of permanent electrical conductivity are required.

Colloids has many years of experience in producing E-TEC® concentrates and compounds to a range of surface and volume resistivities. We serve as a solutions provider to key market sectors for electrical and electronics, automotive, consumer and industrial products and packaging, storage and distribution applications. Our E-TEC® grades offer customers enhanced electrical performance for film, sheet and profile extrusion, injection moulding, vacuum forming and closed cell foams. These have been formulated to offer superior mechanical properties, enhanced process capability and excellent weldability.

Typically, thermoplastics are electrically insulative, leading to static discharge, resulting in damage to electronic components or an ignition source. Colloids E-TEC® formulations use carbon-based nanoparticles to form a permanent conductive network that lasts for the product’s life, unlike other solutions such as spraying and immersion techniques, where antistatic properties are lost through abrasion; or migratory additives where antistatic properties reduce with time.

Other applications with Colloids E-TEC® formulations are found in “Smart” materials and electrical sensors.

Our technical experts have experience in selecting the correct carbon black for your needs based on the particle size, along with the correct functionality on the surface of the particles. The formulation of the compound is critical with the ideal loading of the carbon based nanoparticles governed by the “percolation network”.

Colloids’ strict production quality control ensures that excellent dispersion is achieved without impacting carbon nanoparticle structure and conductive properties, creating a perfect electrically conductive compound that is ready for further processing.

Based on dispersions of conductive carbon black, the E-TEC® range is available as standard in the following polymers, ideal for any work where an accumulation of static electrical charge may cause a problem:
